141839Photo #141839One has to cycle on a narrow road here. Travelling west the road is narrow with 2 pedestrian traffic islands in the centre of the road which makes it very narrow and vehicles after either try and overtake a cyclist at this pinch point and often actually go on the wrong side of the central island. It is very dangerousCycleway:

141836Photo #141836There is a combined footpath and cycleway from Norton to Stotfold. However at the Norton end you have to go onto a main road at a dangerous point and it is not well signposted. There should be better links from this cycleway into Letchworth. At the Stotfold end the cyclerway exists into the village.Cycleway:

141642Photo #141642Dangerously narrow cycle lane needs widening.
Having a lane there means drivers don't feel they need to give cyclists any additional space when passing, but there are sections along St. Michael's Road where the cycle lane isn't even as wide as some handlebars.

140898Photo #140898Restrictive barrier needs to be removed to make walking, cycling and wheeling more inclusive. They discourage rather than welcome, discriminating against people who use

wheelchairs, mobility scooters, handcycles, cargo bikes or pushchairs. They also increase risks from Covid-19 infection.

132877Photo #132877This is an arterial route from the station to town centre. Pavements are too narrow and the road is three lanes at this point. There is also a very adverse camber on the north side of the road. If traffic levels are to be restrained, return this to two lanes and widen pavements. This would reduce speeding. The straighter and wider nature of the section of B656 between the traffic lights back to the Verulam road roundabout compared to the stretch from Rail station to roundabout invites speeding from car drivers.Track:

132875Photo #132875There is a footpath through B&M (former B&Q) site which historically was a small lane. If this site is ever redeveloped it would be possible to require this to be opened for cycle access avoiding the roundabout. It would link Nightingale and Walsworth Roads avoiding the main roads. Another suggestion from county council planners when the street improvement scheme went in for Dacre and Radcliffe Roads in the 2000s was for a cycle counterflow on Dacre Road.Cycleway:

127931Photo #127931A505 can't be closed but Ickleford Road could be, in the Dutch style if it were closed at this end local traffic could still access from the Periwinkle Lane end. Usually this road is crowded with heavy traffic and many people parking from the town, so that the footpaths and road are too narrow.Temporary closure:
Problem

127928Photo #127928This is both a pavement and cycling issue. This is a very dangerous roundabout where it's really hard for pedestrians to get across because the traffic goes fast and there's no pedestrian crossing. What's needed is slower traffic (ie 20mph along all the roads feeding this intersection), pedestrian crossings, and an improved road layout so cycles can get around safely.Cycleway:
Problem
cycleways
127926Photo #127926On Ickleford Road the footpaths are narrow and so is the road, and cars often park up on the footpath, which makes it very hard to walk along the footpath with a pram or wheelchair at the best of times, and impossible to stay 2m apart. To step aside you have to step into the road, and as the traffic increases again that gets really dangerous.Track:
